Ben Prima is presently completing a Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance at Sacramento State University, where he has studied with Daniel Kennedy and Chris Froh. Currently he is focusing on contemporary percussion literature as well as traditional North Indian, Arabic, and Balinese percussion. Ben has toured extensively throughout the United States as a snare drummer with the Santa Clara Vanguard, winning the Drum Corps International percussion championship with them in 2004. In the concert hall, Ben has performed alongside such varied musical figures as Nancy Zeltsman, Michael Lipsey, Steve Mackey, Pauline Oliveros, and the Talujon Percussion Quartet. He maintains an active schedule of performing, teaching, arranging, and adjudicating percussion throughout Northern California. A woodworker by trade, Ben designs and creates many of his own instruments.
